A leading bank in Central Israel is looking for a Principal Backend Engineer to join its Center of Excellence and help shape the organization's engineering future.

This is a senior, hands on technology leadership role combining software architecture, coding, technology research, POCs, Platform Engineering, Cloud, DevOps, AI, and Developer Experience.

What You'll Do

• Lead strategic engineering initiatives with organization wide impact

• Design modern architectures and define engineering standards

• Stay hands on with code and lead POCs from exploration to production adoption

• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and development capabilities

• Build and improve internal development platforms and SDLC processes

• Drive AI and Agentic AI adoption across engineering workflows

• Improve Developer Experience and engineering productivity

• Collaborate with developers, architects, DevOps, Infrastructure, and Security teams

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams

What We're Looking For

• Strong Backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot

• Significant experience in Software Architecture, Solution Design, and technical leadership

• Good knowledge of Node.js and/or TypeScript

• Deep understanding of Kafka, RabbitMQ, REST APIs, and system integration

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases

• Hands on experience with Kubernetes, AWS, OpenShift, and Docker

• Strong understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD

• Experience with Platform Engineering and Developer Experience

• Hands on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Kiro, or similar tools

• Experience with Agentic AI

• Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across teams

Big advantage: Experience with Backstage or other Internal Developer Platforms.
