Postdoctoral Researcher / PhD Student PositionEvolution and Development of Fleshy Fruits, ARO, Volcani Institute

Our lab is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher or PhD student to join our team to study how fleshy fruits evolved from simpler dry fruits. We focus on the pericarp, the fruit wall made of multiple cell layers, and the molecular mechanisms that control the diversity in the number of these cell layers across species in the Solanaceae family. This is a great opportunity to combine molecular biology, developmental genetics, and evolutionary biology to answer fundamental questions about one of nature's most intriguing innovations: the fleshy fruit.

Key objectives

•     Investigate the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms underlying fleshy fruit development, with a focus on pericarp tissue formation

•     Design and perform molecular cloning experiments and functional assays in planta

•     Carry out RNA extraction and transcriptional analyses to characterize gene expression during fruit development

What we're looking for

•     A background in plant molecular biology

•     Hands-on experience with Golden Gate / GoldenBraid cloning

•     Familiarity with RNA extraction and transcriptional analysis (e.g., qPCR, RNA-seq)

•     Curiosity, motivation, and a genuine interest in plant development and evolution

המעבדה שלנו מחפשת פוסט-דוקטורנט/ית או דוקטורנט/ית בעלי מוטיבציה, להצטרף לצוות המחקר שלנו העוסק בשאלה כיצד פירות בשרניים התפתחו במהלך האבולוציה ומתפתחים ברמה התאית מתוך פירות יבשים. אנו מתמקדים בדופן הפרי (פריקרפ) הבנוי משכבות תאים רבות , ובמנגנונים המולקולריים השולטים במגוון במספר שכבות התאים הללו בין מינים שונים במשפחת הסולניים (Solanaceae). זוהי הזדמנות מצוינת לשלב ביולוגיה מולקולרית, גנטיקה התפתחותית ואבולוציה, במטרה לענות על שאלות בסיסיות בנוגע לאחת ההמצאות המסקרנות ביותר של הטבע – היווצרות הפרי הבשרני.

משימות העיקריות של הפרויקט

•       ניתור המנגנונים המולקולריים והאבולוציוניים העומדים בבסיס התפתחות הפרי הבשרני, בדגש על היווצרות רקמת הפריקרפ

•       תכננון וביצועה של שיבוטים מולקולריים ויצירת צמחים מהונדסים

•       ביצוע הפקת RNA וניתוחים טרנסקריפטומיים לאפיון ביטוי גנים במהלך התפתחות הפרי
