We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented QA Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us scale our quality standards.

The Role

We are building something big at Commbox, and we need a talented QA Engineer to take our testing to the next level. This is a hybrid QA role - split approximately 50/50 between hands-on manual testing and advanced test automation. You will take ownership of the full quality lifecycle: from deep-dive, exploratory manual testing that ensures a flawless user experience, to the creation and evolution of scalable automation systems

Key Responsibilities

Manual Testing (approx. 50%)

• Take full ownership of manual testing efforts for new features, including exploratory, functional, and regression testing.
• Analyze complex product requirements and design comprehensive, edge-case manual test plans and test cases.
• Act as the voice of the customer, ensuring the product's UI/UX is intuitive, stable, and meets high-quality standards.
• Triage, document, and track bugs with high precision, working closely with developers to ensure timely resolutions.

Automation (approx. 50%)

• Maintain scalable, efficient, and reusable Playwright automation infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end UI test automation using Playwright and TypeScript, converting manual test cases into robust automated scripts.
• Simulate real-world messaging flows (e.g., WhatsApp, SMS) using API mocking.
• Manage Playwright reporting tools such as Allure, ReportPortal, and the built-in inspector.
• Monitor automated test execution, analyze errors, perform advanced troubleshooting, and ensure test stability.

Cross-Functional & AI

• Leverage AI-driven tools (e.g., Claud, Gemini) to boost QA productivity, speed up test creation, and improve documentation and debugging.
• Collaborate closely with developers, DevOps, Product, and QA teams to ensure complete and seamless test coverage.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies, contribute to sprint planning, and help establish and uphold QA best practices across teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 5+ years of overall QA experience testing complex web-based applications, with a track record of excellence in both manual testing and automation.
• Strong manual QA foundation: Deep expertise in test design, exploratory testing, regression strategies, and understanding complex system architectures.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript, including building frameworks and infrastructure from scratch.
• Proficient coding skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, with experience in Node.js.
• Experience writing scalable test infrastructure, including:

o Selector strategy (XPath, CSS, etc.)

o Timeout and wait condition handling

o Page Object Model (POM) design and implementation

o Parallel test execution using Playwright workers

o Environment configuration (.env files, staging/production separation)

o Network request mocking and backend simulation (API, 3rd-party responses)

o CI/CD pipeline integration (GitHub Actions, Docker)

• Hands-on experience with API testing and automation
• Experience working with SQL for data validation and backend testing.
• Practical use of AI tools (e.g., Claud, Gemini) in QA workflows.
• Experience with Jira and Xray test management systems.
• Comfort with test documentation and reporting best practices.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Selenium, particularly infrastructure and Web UI automation.
• Familiarity with containerized environments using Kubernetes.
• Experience with Playwright CLI & advanced AI-assisted automation workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
