Head of the Electro-Optics Development Team

About the Company

The team leader is responsible for the professional and managerial leadership of the electro-optics team, which is responsible for defining, selecting, characterizing, testing, and integrating the critical components in the company's products - including lasers, thermal engines, detectors, displays, relays, and other electro-optical components. The team leader will be a professional authority in all aspects of optical design, from design definition to the ability to test and verify optical design definitions. The team leader will lead the processes of identifying and researching technologies that are suitable for integration into the company's existing and future products. The role combines deep engineering-technical responsibility with team management, suppliers, and testing processes.

About the Role

The team leader is responsible for the professional and managerial leadership of the electro-optics team.

Responsibilities

• Engineering and Technical Leadership
• Defining technical requirements for critical electro-optical components in accordance with product and system requirements.
• Responsible for selecting components, characterizing them, and adapting them to performance, reliability, and cost requirements.
• Supporting the design and integration processes of components in subsystems and systems.
• Solving complex engineering problems in the fields of optics and electro-optics.
• Supplier Management
• Establishing ongoing professional contact with suppliers in Israel and abroad.
• Managing evaluation processes, market surveys and comparing suppliers and technologies.
• Supporting co-development processes with suppliers when required.
• Managing technical specifications and ensuring supplier compliance with requirements.
• Tests and Experiments
• Defining test methods and procedures for electro-optical components and subsystems.
• Planning, performing and analyzing test and characterization test results.
• Defining requirements for test equipment and laboratory infrastructure required by the team.
• Responsibility for documenting test results and producing engineering conclusions.
• Team Management
• Direct management of a team of electro-optical engineers: professional guidance, task distribution and progress monitoring.
• Responsibility for professional development of team members and recruitment when necessary.
• Interface with additional development entities (mechanics, electronics, software, systems) to ensure proper integration.
• Current reporting to the development management on progress, risks and milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in electro-optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering or a relevant field.
• Proven experience of 5+ years in developing electro-optical components or systems.
• Experience in managing an engineering team - a significant advantage.
• In-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas: lasers, day/night optics, displays, thermal engines.
• Experience working with international suppliers.
• Proven experience of 2+ years in optical design support with subcontractors.
• Ability to lead, organize and work in a multidisciplinary environment and under time pressure.
• High level of English.
• Willingness to travel abroad.

Required Skills

• Proven experience of 5+ years in developing electro-optical components or systems.
• Experience in managing an engineering team - a significant advantage.
