We are looking for a PhD student to join a Israel Science Foundation (ISF) funded prospective cohort study investigating respiratory illness among healthcare workers.
The student will work closely with the study team throughout the cohort’s development and follow-up and will lead its quantitative analyses under close supervision. The research will emphasize modern epidemiological methods, causal inference, real-world evidence, and health data science.
Who we are looking forWe are seeking a capable and motivated researcher with a strong quantitative foundation and a relevant academic background.
Suitable candidates may come from epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, computer science, data science, bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field.
Ideally, candidates will bring some combination of:
- Training in epidemiology or biostatistics, or data science
- Some exposure to machine learning
- Practical ability to work in R and/or Python
- Experience conducting independent research
Candidates do not need to be experts in all these areas. Strong quantitative ability, genuine curiosity about health questions, research potential, and a willingness to learn are more important than checking every box.
Practical details- PhD registration will be at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, through either the Faculty of Computer and Information Science or the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Community Health in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The appropriate registration route will be determined by the candidate’s previous academic training and formal admission eligibility.
- The student will be based primarily at Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer, where the study is conducted. The position requires near-daily on-site presence.
- This is a full-time internal PhD scholarship position, without external employment.
- Full PhD scholarship for four years.
- Applicants must hold, or be close to completing, a relevant master’s degree and meet the applicable BGU doctoral admission requirements.
- Start date: as soon as possible. The recruitment process is time-sensitive, and early applications are strongly encouraged.
