Freelance QA Automation Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Freelance QA Automation Engineer for a part-time project focused on building QA automation from scratch for a multi-tenant CRM / e-commerce system. The automation will help the team release faster and more confidently, reduce dependency on manual QA, and improve coverage around critical financial and payment-related flows. This is a hands-on role in a small, fast-moving engineering team, so the engineer should be proactive, pragmatic, and able to take ownership of both QA strategy and automation implementation.

This is a fully remote freelance engagement of approximately 60 hours per month, with strong overlap with Israel working hours. Hebrew fluency is required for onboarding and domain-related communication.

What you’ll be doing:

• Define and own the QA automation strategy across API and end-to-end testing

• Select and set up the automation framework from scratch, including repo structure, conventions, utilities, fixtures, and reporting

• Prioritize and automate critical financial and payment-related flows, including refunds, credits, settlements, orders, webhooks, retries, and idempotency

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, including PR gates, smoke tests, nightly runs, artifacts, and reporting

• Build reliable test data and fixtures, including sandbox accounts, test cards, seeded datasets, and reset tools

• Translate existing manual QA flows into maintainable automated test cases, test plans, checklists, and release criteria

• Track and reduce flaky tests, triage failures, and help reduce MTTR

• Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams, and help teammates follow QA automation best practices

We’re looking for someone with:

• 4+ years of hands-on QA automation experience, including building frameworks from scratch

• Strong JavaScript / TypeScript and experience with Playwright or Cypress for UI automation

• Experience with API testing using Python / pytest or Postman / Newman

• CI/CD experience with GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket pipelines, including artifacts and reporting

• Solid understanding of web applications, REST APIs, SQL, and PostgreSQL

• Experience testing payment flows, refunds, credits, settlements, webhooks, or other high-risk financial features

• Ability to own a QA roadmap, make pragmatic trade-offs, and communicate clearly with stakeholders

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with Django codebases, factories, fixtures, or Django admin

• Experience with Israeli acquirers or Stripe-like payment gateways

• Experience with multi-tenant systems, roles and permissions, or complex back-office workflows

• Basic performance or security testing experience with tools like k6 or Locust
