Associate Director, Corporate Accounting
About The Role
Deel processes payroll, payments, and financial transactions for tens of thousands of companies across 150+ countries. At that scale, our financial infrastructure isn't just a compliance function; it's a strategic engine. We're hiring an Associate Director, Corporate Accounting to own both the revenue accounting backbone behind every dollar that flows through the platform and the design, validation, and quality assurance of the financial event architecture powering our internal finance integration platform.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership role sitting at the intersection of accounting, engineering, and data. You'll lead revenue recognition and corporate accounting, partner with product and engineering teams to design the financial event architecture that powers our reporting, and collaborate with FP&A and data analytics to build the forecasting models that guide our business decisions.
If you've worked in a high-volume fintech environment, understand how complex transaction flows translate into accounting entries, and want to help shape how a global financial platform manages its financial infrastructure at scale, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
Revenue accounting leadership
- Own the end-to-end revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and US GAAP across Deel's full suite of products including EOR, contractor payments, global payroll, and platform fees.
- Lead the monthly and quarterly close for all revenue streams, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and review revenue-related disclosures for financial reporting and external audits.
- Partner with the Technical Accounting team to research and document accounting positions for complex, multi-element arrangements and new product launches, ensuring revenue recognition policies are applied consistently across the business.
- Build and maintain a scalable revenue accounting function capable of handling high transaction volumes across multiple currencies and jurisdictions.
- Play a key role in the monthly and quarterly close process, owning validation of the most critical financial line items derived from our internal finance integration.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis tied to integration-generated financial events.
- Prepare, review, and support external audit processes related to integration outputs.
- Apply US GAAP accounting knowledge to design financial events that are accurate, consistent, and audit-ready.
- Develop and maintain accounting positions for complex transaction types, including multi-currency and multi-entity flows.
- Ensure internal controls are embedded into integration design and QA processes from the ground up.
- Own the design, validation, and QA of financial figures generated by Deel's internally built finance integration platform.
- Define the accounting logic that governs how financial events are structured, ensuring correctness and compliance with US GAAP before changes go live.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to validate that financial event architecture feeds data accurately into accounting systems and the general ledger.
- Identify gaps in data capture or classification and drive cross-functional solutions to close them, reducing manual reconciliation and increasing automation.
- Own the integrity of the relationship between our internal integration layer and downstream financial reporting.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to design and validate the financial event architecture that feeds revenue and corporate accounting data into accounting systems.
- Define the accounting logic for new product features, ensuring financial events are structured correctly before they ship.
- Work closely with the analytics team to validate reporting outputs and build dashboards that provide real-time visibility into integration accuracy.
- Translate technical system behavior into accounting-compliant financial event design, bridging the gap between product logic and GAAP requirements.
- Collaborate with data analytics to support the development of scalable data pipelines and monitoring tools.
- Partner with FP&A and data analytics teams to build robust revenue forecasting models and financial reporting modules.
- Translate accounting outputs into business-readable metrics that support planning, investor reporting, and executive decision-making.
- Contribute to variance analysis and revenue commentary that connects accounting actuals to business drivers.
- Support the development of scalable data pipelines and dashboards that provide real-time visibility into revenue performance.
What we're looking for
- CPA designation is a must.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant time at a high-growth fintech, payments, or SaaS environment where transaction volume is measured in the millions.
- Deep technical knowledge of ASC 606 and US GAAP, including multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, principal vs. agent analysis, and complex transaction environments.
- Proven experience working alongside engineering or product teams to design financial systems and define how transactions are captured and classified.
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite (required).
- Experience with multi-currency transactions, including cross-border payment flows and multi-entity consolidation.
- Technical orientation: comfortable engaging with engineering teams, understanding system architecture, and translating technical logic into accounting outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguity, move fast, and build structure where it doesn't yet exist.
- Strong command of data tools; comfort working with SQL, Looker, or similar analytics platforms is a strong advantage.
- Experience at a company processing high volumes of cross-border payments and multi-currency payroll.
- Exposure to SOX compliance and internal controls design.
- Background in coordinating across global finance teams and external auditors.
- Familiarity with ERP and billing systems such as Stripe, Zuora, or similar platforms.
Deel's financial infrastructure spans more countries, currencies, and payment types than almost any other platform in the world. The Associate Director, Corporate Accounting role isn't about maintaining existing processes; it's about designing what comes next. You'll help determine how financial events get defined, how revenue and integration data get built and validated, and how the company maintains confidence in its own financial data at scale. This is a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of accounting depth, technical impact, and global scale.
