The role

The Field Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for diagnosing and resolving vehicle software and hardware issues to keep the fleet operational. In addition to core engineering responsibilities, this role will also support on-road testing and safety operations, contributing real-world feedback to improve vehicle performance and artificial intelligence systems.

They will play a critical role in rapid fault triage, ensuring a 5-minute response time while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Working closely with fellow engineers, safety operators, and global teams, they will contribute to seamless operations through effective communication, technical expertise, and problem-solving. As part of a newly established function within Fleet Operations, the Field Engineer will help refine processes and drive efficiency in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform on-site fault triage and resolution, diagnosing and repairing vehicle software and hardware issues quickly to maintain fleet uptime.
• Follow structured fault diagnosis and repair protocols, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently and in alignment with operational workflows.
• Collaborate with fellow field engineers, safety operators, and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
• Respond rapidly to issues, meeting the 5-minute issue response time to keep vehicles operational and teams supported.
• Support on-road testing activities, including monitoring vehicle behaviour and responding to hazards to ensure safe operations at all times.
• Evaluate vehicle and AI system performance during testing, providing clear, actionable feedback to engineering and research teams.
• Provide real-world driving insights and examples to support the development and training of AI systems.
• Maintain clear communication with the Field Engineering Lead, providing updates on ongoing repairs and ensuring smooth handovers across geographical locations.
• Participate in on-call rotations, assisting with technical support and issue resolution across multiple regions as part of a 24/7 global support network.
• Adhere to strict safety and compliance protocols, ensuring all fault triage, testing, and repairs follow correct procedures and approvals.
• Operate test vehicles safely in both DC and AV modes, acting as the safety driver during on road testing, continuously monitoring vehicle behaviour and ensuring full compliance with safety protocols and operational standards at all times.
• Support safety standards by identifying, documenting, and reporting vehicle or operational issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, identifying operational challenges and providing feedback to optimise field engineering and safety operations.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Field Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential:

• Technical Expertise – Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostics, software and hardware fault triage, and repair processes. Experience in fleet operations, automotive systems, or ADAS technology is a plus.
• Problem-Solving & Efficiency – Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly, meeting strict SLAs (5-minute response time) to keep vehicles operational.
• Communication & Collaboration – Capable of working closely with global teams, providing clear technical updates, and ensuring smooth handovers across locations.
• Safety & Compliance – Deep understanding of safety protocols, incident management, and adherence to operational procedures to ensure secure and effective repairs.
• Adaptability & Flexibility – Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, including participation in on-call rotations and weekend coverage as needed.
• Technical Tools & Platforms – Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software monitoring platforms (e.g., Datadog, Mender), and ticketing systems like JIRA.
• Strong driving experience and confidence operating vehicles in real-world conditions.
• Ability to safely monitor and respond to hazards during on-road testing.
• Experience providing structured feedback based on real-world system performance.
• Fluent in Hebrew and English.
• Hold a full Israeli Driving Licence.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of ADAS technology and on-road testing requirements is highly advantageous.
• L2 Automobile Mechanic certification.
• Background in advanced driving, safety operations or vehicle testing environments.

Additional Requirements:

• Onsite in Herzliya, Israel.
• Sunday to Thursday during core office hours.
• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
• Occasional international travel may be required to support other sites or share best practice.
• Training and onboarding will take place in London.
