Technical Writers (Part-Time & Contract) – Cybersecurity, Hardware, Cloud & Defense Projects

JBS is seeking experienced technical writers to join our team on a part-time and contract basis, supporting a variety of documentation projects across cybersecurity, cloud technologies, software platforms, hardware products, defense systems, AI-enabled products, medical technologies, and other advanced technology domains.

Our projects vary significantly in subject matter, audience, and documentation type, offering opportunities to work with innovative companies ranging from startups to established technology leaders.

In general, a minimum of half-time availability is required.

Who We're Looking For

You may be a good fit if you have worked as a Technical Writer, Documentation Specialist, Information Developer, Technical Communications Specialist, Technical Publications Specialist, Technical Content Developer, or Engineering Documentation Specialist.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of paid experience in a technical writing, documentation, or related role.
• Fluent English proficiency, including the ability to write clear, professional, publication-quality technical documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with current technical writing tools and documentation platforms.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve documentation workflows, content quality, research, and productivity while maintaining technical accuracy, editorial standards, and adherence to responsible AI practices.
• Ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
• Strong technical aptitude and curiosity about technology.
• Experience working directly with subject matter experts, engineers, product managers, developers, or other technical stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments independently.
• Collaborative mindset and professional communication skills.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with online documentation platforms such as Document360, ReadMe, Docusaurus, Confluence, or similar systems.
• Experience with Markdown, MadCap Flare, HTML, CSS, XML, or structured authoring environments.
• Experience documenting cybersecurity products and services.
• Experience documenting cloud technologies and SaaS platforms.
• Experience documenting hardware products or technical systems.
• Experience with API documentation and familiarity with OpenAPI, Swagger, Postman, or related tools.
• Experience working in regulated, enterprise, or defense-related environments.
• Familiarity with Git, GitHub, or source-controlled documentation workflows.
