aChord, Social Psychology for Social Change, is a unique academic-social organization that develops and applies cutting-edge knowledge from social psychology to promote equal, tolerant, and respectful relations between different social groups in Israel, and between Israeli society and neighboring societies in the region.

The Education Department at aChord works to promote inclusive, tolerant, and equitable perceptions among children and youth in Israel. We partner with the Ministry of Education, educational networks, local authorities, civil society organizations, schools, youth movements, teacher training institutions, and other key actors to advance shared society education and civic-democratic education across the formal and informal education systems.

We are looking for a visionary and inspiring leader to lead the department with energy, commitment, and passion.

The role includes:

• Developing a long-term strategy for the department
• Leading and supporting a professional team
• Building meaningful partnerships in the education field
• Driving initiatives with broad systemic impact
• Connecting academic knowledge from social psychology with practical work in the field

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the department’s team in a supportive, people-centered approach
• Initiate, develop, and lead innovative strategies and large-scale initiatives to advance education for shared society and democracy in Israel
• Guide the team in designing and implementing consulting, training, development, and research activities with educational partners
• Build strong partnerships with diverse actors in the education field, including:
• The Ministry of Education
• Local authorities
• Educational networks
• Civil society organizations
• Schools and youth movements
• Teacher training colleges
• Professional development centers
• Promote policy-oriented work with the Ministry of Education and local authorities to support shared society and democratic education

What we are looking for

• A deep belief in the possibility of creating broad change in the education field
• Familiarity with the pedagogical world and the Israeli education system
• A relevant master’s degree, required
• A master’s degree in social psychology or education, a significant advantage
• Existing professional networks in the Ministry of Education, local authorities, and formal or informal education organizations, a significant advantage
• Experience leading policy processes and/or large-scale impact initiatives in public systems, a significant advantage
• Experience leading the development and implementation of educational initiatives, a significant advantage
• Proven management experience, including:
• Team leadership
• Cross-organizational processes
• Complex partnerships
• Implementation of complex projects in the field
• Curiosity and willingness to adopt the perspective and practical tools of social psychology
• Ability to connect between theory and practice
• A deep understanding of Israeli society and its complexities

Additional details

• Position scope: 80%-100%
• Location: Hybrid model, working from home combined with work from aChord’s offices in Shefayim
• Start date: Immediate
• The role requires travel to work meetings across Israel
• Employment is through the Magid Institute at the Hebrew University
