Company Description Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, is the central global institution for Holocaust documentation, research, education, and commemoration. Established in 1953, it serves as the Jewish people’s living memorial to the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and to the destroyed communities of the Shoah. Its archives hold the world’s largest collection of Holocaust documentation, including millions of pages of records, films, photographs, and survivor testimonies. Yad Vashem’s work is grounded in rigorous research and educational outreach in Israel and worldwide, fostering intergenerational and international engagement with Holocaust memory and its contemporary meaning.
Role Description This full-time, hybrid role is based at Yad Vashem in West Jerusalem, with the option for partial work from home in accordance with institutional policies. The Reference Archivist for Researchers will support researchers, students, and other visitors in accessing and interpreting archival collections, both in reading rooms and through remote reference services. Responsibilities include responding to research inquiries, guiding users in the use of catalogs, databases, and finding aids, and helping identify relevant archival materials for specific research projects. The archivist will also assist in preparing materials for exhibitions, publications, and educational initiatives, and may participate in developing guidelines, procedures, and training resources for archive users.
Qualifications
- Profound knowledge of the Holocaust and its geography
- Background in archive and library services or information science, including user services, reference work, and database searching.
- Academic degree in archives and records management, library and information science, history, Holocaust studies, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to work accurately and meticulously with complex historical materials.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse users, colleagues, and international partners.
- Ability to work on-site in West Jerusalem in a hybrid framework, manage multiple requests, and prioritize tasks in a high-demand environment.
- Excellent written and oral proficiency in Hebrew and English is mandatory, proficiency in additional European languages is highly beneficial.
