What Makes This Role Different (Read This First)

This is not a traditional Enterprise Data Architect role. You won’t be sitting in meetings drafting data governance policies or drawing theoretical diagrams all day.

This is not a standard Data Engineer role. We aren't looking for someone whose primary focus is building daily ETL/ELT pipelines, writing Spark jobs, or managing Airflow dags.

We are looking for a Data Infrastructure Architect. You are a top-level expert who understands query optimizers, data modeling, storage engines, and distributed data systems under the hood. You know exactly what happens to disk, memory, and network when a massive analytical query runs, and you know how to architect systems to make it happen faster.

What You’ll Do

• Architect & Firefight: Work hands-on inside client environments to design modern data infrastructure, resolve critical production bottlenecks, and fix deep architectural flaws.
• Build Advanced Solutions: Design and implement high-throughput data models, distributed architectures, sharding strategies, and custom storage layers.
• Lead Technical Engagements: Guide mid-market and enterprise clients through massive scaling transitions, from legacy DBMS setups to cutting-edge distributed systems.
• Own the Infrastructure: Take end-to-end ownership of complex data initiatives—from initial discovery and deep-dive technical assessment to production rollout.
• Collaborate with Elites: Work alongside a tight-knit team of senior database experts to steer clients toward operational excellence and future-proof engineering.

What You Bring

• Deep Mastery of DBMS Internals: You understand storage engines, page layouts, indexing strategies, and concurrency control at a low level (whether that’s PostgreSQL, MySQL, or specialized engines).
• Modern Analytical Ecosystem Expertise: Deep, practical experience with columnar databases (e.g., ClickHouse, DuckDB) and modern open table formats / lakehouse architectures (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake).
• Distributed Systems Mechanics: Solid grasp of high availability, consensus protocols (Raft, Paxos), replication, and data partitioning at scale.
• Cloud & Bare-Metal Fluency: Strong experience designing data layers across AWS, GCP, or Azure, balancing managed services with custom, self-hosted infrastructure.
• Elite Troubleshooting Instincts: The confidence to drop into an unfamiliar, highly complex environment under heavy pressure and methodically isolate a root cause.
• Systems Programming Skills: Proficiency in writing clean infrastructure automation or tooling using Python, Go, Rust, C/C++, or Bash.
• Consulting Mindset: Excellent communication skills. You can debate technical internals with staff engineers and clearly articulate business risk to executives.

Nice to Have

• Strong roots in PostgreSQL internals (while we are polyglot, Postgres remains a major pillar of our work).
• Experience with real-time streaming architectures or message brokers (Kafka, Redpanda, Flink).
• A background in professional services or technical consulting.
