The British Embassy in Israel is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, creative and highly motivated individual to play a key role in delivering the Embassy’s communications strategy and wider objectives.
Reporting to the Senior Communications Officer, the jobholder will be responsible for leading the Embassy’s prosperity-related comms, securing wide-ranging press coverage with a focus on business, trade, science and technology, and supporting the Embassy and wider comms team’s work.
The role includes maintaining relationships with local journalists, business marketing, and working with teams across the Embassy to design and implement communications, campaigns, events and activity outreach. The Communications Officer will support the wider comms team, including in tracking, analysing and reporting Israeli media trends.
The successful candidate will be expected to be creative, proactive and collaborative, with the ability to support work across a wide range of topics including politics, diplomacy, trade, science and technology.
This role is best suited to an experienced, well-rounded communications professional, with connections in news outlets (legacy and new media), and / or Israeli media in the fields of business, trade, tech or science. Excellent Hebrew and English are essential, including the ability to translate quickly and accurately between the two languages.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Lead the Embassy’s prosperity-related comms, strengthening the Embassy’s brand and image among local audiences, showcasing the UK as a leader in fields including science, trade, innovation and technology
- Use strategic insight and expertise to support the implementation of the Embassy’s communications strategy
- Secure high-profile coverage and public exposure of Embassy activities, official visits and events, in particular with prosperity focused outcomes
- Draft and issue press releases, statements, op-eds and insights on UK policies on diplomacy & politics, economic, science and tech, and on Embassy activities
- Draft op-eds, messages and speeches for the Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador
- Play an active role in managing the Embassy’s digital presence, including its website and social media channels
- Monitoring the Israeli media and producing regular press round-ups on political and diplomatic issues
- Provide swift and accurate translation between Hebrew and English
- Deputise for the Senior Communications Officer, covering for them as required

Job responsibilities evolve with change in business needs and the Embassy reserves the right to update to job description to ensure it meets the business objectives.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral in English and Hebrew, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in communications and public relations, working with a wide range of contacts in Israeli and international media across diverse fields.
- Demonstrated success in securing media coverage in areas such as politics, international relations, public policy, trade, and science and technology.
- Excellent ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Motivation and enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile and ambitious team, alongside the ability of work independently.
- Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders simultaneously, with strong interpersonal skills, creativity, flexibility and strong communication skills.
- Proven organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong IT skills, including the ability to quickly learn new programs.
- Experience using social media professionally (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn).
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- More than 4 years’ experience in communications, media or a related field.
- Experience writing speeches and op-eds.
- Proficiency in graphic design platforms and programmes.
- Experience in marketing and business marketing.
- Familiarity with UK media based in Israel, and Jewish media in the UK.
- Knowledge of UK–Israel relations and an understanding of the role of the British Embassy in delivering UK objectives.
