Mechanical Engineer – Complex Systems Design (Defense & Autonomous Systems)

Strix Drones – Autonomous Drone-In-A-Box System is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the full lifecycle development of complex, multidisciplinary mechanical systems.

This key role requires deep involvement in hands-on design and full system integration, guiding projects from initial concept through to final production. This necessitates the ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced environment characterized by continuous mechanical modifications.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 5 years of proven experience in end-

to-end mechanical design, specifically in the development of complex electromechanical

or autonomous systems, preferably within the defense industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design – Design and develop advanced mechanical assemblies and

motion systems using SolidWorks.

• Ensure all mechanical designs comply with military and defense standards, including

environmental, durability, and manufacturability requirements (e.g., MIL-STD-810,

MIL-STD-1472, etc.).

• Project Leadership – Lead and oversee all phases of mechanical design projects,

from concept development to manufacturing and deployment.

• Requirement Analysis – Interpret operational and customer needs (including

defense-specific use cases) to derive precise mechanical and system requirements.

• Prototyping & Testing – Perform hands-on prototyping, testing, validation, and

iteration to ensure system performance and reliability.

• Documentation & Reviews – Prepare full project documentation such as BOMs,

assembly instructions, ECOs, PDRs, CDRs, and test reports.

• Technical Writing & Drafting – Produce accurate technical drawings, 2D/3D

schematics, exploded views, and well-structured technical documentation to support

manufacturing, QA, and client deliverables.

Basic Requirements

• BSc or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, including complex system architecture and integration.
• Experience in the defense industry or in projects involving military-grade or mission-critical systems.
• Familiarity with military and defense standards (e.g., MIL-STD) and experience designing mechanical systems accordingly.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, especially SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of motion technologies: motors, actuators, sensors, controllers, and wiring.
• Deep knowledge of manufacturing methods, tolerancing, and assembly processes.
• Experience working on autonomous or electromechanical systems – strong advantage.
• Basic electronics knowledge – advantage.
• Experience in the aviation, drone, or robotics industry – strong advantage.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in leading complex mechanical projects from concept to production.
• Adaptability and resilience when working in a dynamic, high-velocity setting subject to frequent mechanical iterations.
• Background working in or with defense sector clients, or under military standards – strong advantage.
• Proven ability to design in accordance with defense-grade requirements, including environmental, structural, and reliability standards.
• Strong system-level thinking and understanding of multidisciplinary product development.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a creative and detail-oriented mindset.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Highly motivated, independent, and self-driven.
• Team player with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
• Fluent in English – written and spoken.
