Freelance API & Backend Developer – Travel / Flight Booking Website

We are looking for a Freelance API Integration & Backend Developer for a short-term project on an existing travel and flight-booking website.

This is a fully remote freelance project. Candidates from any location are welcome to apply, provided they can communicate clearly in English and work with reasonable overlap with Israel time.

About the project:

The project involves working on an existing travel website, reviewing and improving current API connectivity, fixing code-related issues, and developing new API connections for flight-search, booking, and supplier-related functionality.

The work may include troubleshooting existing API connections, building new integrations, debugging issues in the flight data flow, improving how flight/travel data is fetched and displayed, and ensuring the website works reliably with external systems.

Responsibilities:

• Review, troubleshoot, and improve existing API connections

• Develop new API integrations with external systems, suppliers, or booking-related services

• Fix code-related issues in the website’s flight/search/booking functionality

• Work with REST APIs, JSON data structures, and API responses

• Debug issues related to flight data, availability, search results, or booking flows

• Improve data flow between external systems and the website

• Handle API errors, validation, logs, and technical documentation

• Ensure secure handling of API keys and customer-related data

• Work independently and communicate clearly with the project team

Requirements:

• Proven experience with REST APIs and JSON

• Strong backend development experience — PHP / WordPress / Node.js / Python or similar

• Ability to understand, debug, and improve existing code quickly

• Experience building and troubleshooting third-party API integrations

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work on an existing website without rebuilding it from scratch

• Organized work process and clear technical communication

Nice to have:

• Experience with travel websites, flight booking, hotel booking, booking engines, GDS, or supplier APIs

• Experience with WordPress or PHP-based websites

• Experience with payment, reservation, or booking-related workflows

Project type:

Short-term freelance project focused on API integrations, backend fixes, troubleshooting, and new connectivity development, with a possible option for ongoing collaboration depending on project needs.
