The Role

An algo-trading and crypto startup is seeking an Interim Head of Legal & Compliance to lead its legal, compliance, and regulatory function during a maternity leave cover.

The role is based in Israel and will focus primarily on the company’s Israeli and international operations, including regulatory, contractual, compliance, AML/CFT, and risk-related matters. The position requires a hands-on legal and compliance professional who can independently manage day-to-day legal work, support business teams, oversee regulatory processes, and coordinate with external advisors and regulators where needed.

Legal & Regulatory

Lead and manage the company’s legal and regulatory framework, including matters relating to trading, derivatives, crypto assets, financial services, and applicable Israeli, US related requirements.

Contracts

Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements, service provider agreements, exchange agreements, technology agreements, NDAs, licensing arrangements, and other legal documentation.

Compliance & AML/CFT

Oversee the company’s compliance framework, including AML/CFT policies, KYC/KYB procedures, onboarding reviews, sanctions screening, monitoring processes, and internal controls.

Regulatory Liaison

Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory, compliance, and legal communications with authorities, external counsel, service providers, exchanges, financial institutions, and other stakeholders in Israel and abroad.

Risk & Reporting

Support regulatory reporting, internal compliance reporting, risk management processes, board or management updates, and implementation of compliance protocols across the business.

Cross-Functional Support

Work closely with management, finance, operations, trading, business development, and technology teams to provide practical legal and compliance guidance in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

Proven legal and/or compliance experience in regulated financial services, fintech, trading, investment management, crypto, digital assets, payments, or capital markets.

International Regulatory Knowledge

Knowledge of global regulatory framework concerning derivatives, futures, crypto assets, AML/CFT, sanctions, and financial services regulation — an advantage.

Contracts & Commercial Skills

Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial, technology, financial services, and service provider agreements.

Compliance Expertise

Practical experience with AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, onboarding procedures, regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring, and risk-based controls.

Independence

Ability to lead the legal and compliance function independently, prioritize effectively, and operate in a fast-moving, business-oriented environment.

Languages

Fluent Hebrew and professional-level English are required. Native or near-native English — an advantage.

Education

LL.B and membership in the Israel Bar Association — highly preferred.
