We are a stealth-mode deep-tech startup building a breakthrough infrared (IR) sensing platform, developing next-generation photonic systems based on advanced nonlinear optics.
Our technology integrates advanced nonlinear optics, precision laser engineering, and novel system architectures to unlock a new class of high-performance IR detection capabilities. Backed by experienced leadership and strong technical foundations, we are transitioning from a proof-of-concept system to a fully proprietary architecture. We operate at the intersection of applied physics, precision optics, and system engineering, transforming cutting-edge research concepts into robust, field-deployable systems.
As we push the boundaries of physics-driven system design, simulation and data analysis play a central role in shaping our architecture and performance.
The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join our algorithm and modeling efforts at the intersection of physics, simulation, and data science.
In this role, you will work closely with physicists and system engineers to develop models, analyze experimental data, and build algorithms that support the design and optimization of our sensing platform.
This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge R&D environment where theory, simulation, and experiment tightly interact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop algorithms for signal processing, detection, and estimation in low-SNR regimes
- Build and run numerical simulations, including signal propagation and noise sources
- Analyze experimental data using statistical methods to extract key performance metrics (SNR, stability, sensitivity)
- Design and implement advanced data analysis techniques and “smart” tools for signal extraction below the noise floor (e.g., filtering, correlation, averaging, and model-based inference)
- Apply statistical modelling and uncertainty analysis to improve measurement reliability and system performance
- Bridge simulation and experiment by validating models against measured data
- Contribute to system-level understanding through modeling, data-driven insights, and performance trade-off analysis
- Develop physics-based models of optical and sensing systems
- Implement efficient data pipelines, processing frameworks, and visualization tools
Requirements
- BSc/MSc student in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field
- Strong programming skills (Python required)
- Solid background in numerical methods and data analysis
- Familiarity with signal processing concepts
- Ability to work independently and quickly learn new concepts
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- Experience with scientific computing libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib)
- Background in optics, photonics, or electromagnetics
- Familiarity with simulation tools or frameworks
- Experience with machine learning – advantage
- Experience working with experimental data – advantage
