Senior Backend Engineer- Core

We are building the core infrastructure and operating system for autonomous platforms

This system is the control layer that enables real-world autonomous operations — coordinating drones, docking stations, and edge systems in real time. It is responsible for mission execution, system state, communication, and data flow across distributed autonomous fleets.

This is not a typical backend role. You will be working on a distributed, real-time system that acts as the operational backbone of autonomous missions in production environments.

The platform includes:

• Real-time telemetry, control, and system state
• Mission planning, validation, and execution
• Multi-platform orchestration across fleets
• Video streaming and high-throughput data pipelines

As a Senior Engineer, you will build foundational systems, make architecture-critical decisions, and help define how autonomous platforms are operated at scale.

Responsibilities:

• Build the core backend systems that power autonomous platform operations
• Design distributed services with strict latency, reliability, and scalability constraints
• Own architecture decisions across services, communication layers, and data flow
• Develop systems for mission execution, orchestration, and real-time control
• Implement high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines (telemetry, video)
• Design communication layers between distributed components (edge ↔ cloud ↔ platform)
• Push system performance, reliability, and observability to production-grade standards

Requirements:

• Proven experience building and operating backend systems in production
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering, system design, and clean architecture
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Proficiency in at least one backend language: Java, Python, Go, C++, or Rust
• Deep understanding of concurrency, performance, and failure modes in distributed systems
• Experience with real-time or event-driven systems
• Familiarity with communication/messaging systems (Kafka, gRPC, WebSockets, or similar)

We care more about how you think and build systems than specific tools or frameworks.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with real-time data systems (telemetry, sensors, video)
• Familiarity with video streaming (WebRTC, GStreamer, FFmpeg)
• Experience with geospatial systems
• Background in robotics, drones, or autonomous systems
• Experience with ROS2, MAVLink, or similar communication protocols
