Orbit Communication Systems is a global leader in airborne audio management, tracking, and satellite communication systems. In this role, you will join the mechanics department, acting as a key link between engineering concepts and physical reality. As a mechanical designer at Orbit, you are not just modeling parts; you are developing stabilized pedestals—complex electro-mechanical systems that must move with high precision while withstanding extreme environmental conditions in the air, at sea, and on land.
This position offers a dynamic mix of office-based CAD design (SolidWorks) and hands-on integration in the lab. It is an ideal opportunity for a professional who enjoys seeing their designs come to life, from the first 3D print to the final operational system.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the mechanical lifecycle of high-performance tracking systems, ensuring they remain operational in demanding field conditions.
- Support of existing airborne, marine and stationary pedestals to meet with environmental requirements: Develop robust mechanical solutions that can withstand vibrations, temperature extremes, and corrosive environments, ensuring the longevity and reliability of our communication systems.
- Produce designs meeting performance, cost and manufacturability goals: Balance engineering excellence with practical constraints, utilizing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to create products that are efficient to produce and cost-effective.
- Create fabrication and assembly drawings as well as related documentation: Generate precise technical data packages and drawing files that allow for smooth transition from the R&D stage to production and assembly lines.
- Support prototype assembly, assist in integration and test: Take a hands-on approach by leading the physical build of prototypes, troubleshooting mechanical issues during integration, and validating performance through rigorous testing.

Required Skills
To succeed in this role, we are looking for a professional who combines technical proficiency with a collaborative mindset:
- Mechanical design experience of at least 2-3 years, which includes drawings preparation: Proven track record in detailed mechanical design and documentation.
- 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks -Must): High proficiency in SolidWorks for complex modeling and assembly management.
- Experience in design of mechanical mechanisms: Strong understanding of kinematics, moving parts, and gear systems.
- Experience in 3D printing of plastic and metal: Ability to utilize additive manufacturing for rapid prototyping and design verification.
- Team player, excellent interpersonal skills: Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and communicate technical ideas clearly.
