Role Description

We are looking for a Senior MySQL DBA Consultant to join us on a temporary, hourly-based remote project. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex production environments and enjoys solving deep database challenges at scale. You will play a key role in optimizing, stabilizing, and evolving critical database infrastructure.

This is a contractor temporary and remote position.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and execute database migrations with minimal downtime
• Design and implement high availability and failover architectures
• Manage and optimize MySQL 8.x environments with InnoDB Cluster (Group Replication)
• Deploy and maintain MySQL on Kubernetes environments (preferably Tanzu)
• Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks across CPU, IO, and locking
• Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and InnoDB configurations
• Implement and improve monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
• Work with slow query analysis and performance metrics
• Plan and execute backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery scenarios

Requirements

Must Have

• 7+ years of hands-on experience as a MySQL DBA in production environments
• Strong experience with MySQL 8.x and InnoDB Cluster (Group Replication)
• Proven track record of leading DB migrations with minimal downtime
• Experience running MySQL on Kubernetes platforms
• Deep understanding of High Availability, replication, and failover strategies
• Strong expertise in query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and observability
• Hands-on experience with Percona XtraBackup
• Solid understanding of consistency vs performance trade-offs
