Summary

We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to help design, build, and operate Tenna's greenfield data platform. You'll own mission-critical pipelines and services powering our RF and spectrum analytics — including real-time spoofing detection and signal intelligence across maritime, aerial, and space domains — balancing performance, cost, and reliability as we scale. This is a platform role with significant architectural surface area: the decisions you make will shape Tenna's data infrastructure for years.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and run Spark data pipelines on Databricks and Delta Lake, owning SLAs/SLOs, cost, and performance across batch and on-demand workloads.
• Help shape how we think about schema, data contracts, and type safety — evolving our infrastructure-as-code tooling that generates tables, storage objects, and typed client libraries across platforms and languages from a single source of truth.
• Shape how we operate as an engineering team — infrastructure is a first-class deliverable here, and engineers own their systems end-to-end: writing their own infra-as-code, wiring their own observability, and operating what they build.

Requirements

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of professional Backend/Data Engineering experience.
• 3+ years of Data Engineering experience specifically.
• Production experience with Apache Spark and Delta Lake (or equivalent lakehouse format: Iceberg, Hudi).
• Strong SQL and Python; solid data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning chops.
• Proven track record building large-scale, multi-tenant data pipelines and platform services.
• Pragmatic approach to cost/latency trade-offs, caching, partitioning strategy, and storage formats.
• AWS (or other cloud provider) fluency
• Terraform/IaC experience and a GitOps mindset.
• IC mindset: you lead through design, code, and collaboration (no direct reports).

Other Requirements

• Databricks platform experience (Unity Catalog, workflows, cluster tuning).
• Scala, especially in a codegen or type-system context.
• Observability stacks (metrics, logging, data quality frameworks).
• Experience building internal developer tooling and platform productization.
• Geospatial data experience (H3, S2, Geohash).
