Embedded Software Tech Lead (Hands-On)

Company: Small, highly skilled engineering company (~13 engineers) with dedicated Hardware and Embedded Software departments, delivering multidisciplinary embedded systems projects.

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead – Hardware & Firmware to take ownership of system engineering, architecture, and delivery of complex embedded systems.

This role combines technical leadership (~50%) and hands-on execution (~50%), spanning hardware, firmware, and system-level design.

You will lead projects end-to-end, from requirements and architecture through bring-up, integration, and delivery to production — while working closely with both the Hardware and Embedded Software departments and directly with customers.

• Lead system engineering activities:
• Translate customer needs into system requirements
• Define architecture, interfaces, constraints, and verification strategy
• Own the HW ↔ FW interface and ensure tight integration between teams
• Act as a hands-on technical leader (~50%):
• Design, develop, debug, and integrate embedded systems
• Work across the full embedded stack: Low-level (BSP, drivers, hardware interfaces), RTOS and system services and Application layer
• Define and guide development of complex hardware systems:
• Create system/block diagrams
• Support hardware engineers, bring-up, and system debugging
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects, ensuring delivery of fully working systems that meet requirements
• Lead firmware code reviews (C/C++), enforcing quality, maintainability, and reliability
• Establish engineering best practices, standards, and processes
• Mentor and coach engineers across disciplines
• Work directly with customers:
• Lead technical discussions
• Align on requirements
• Manage risks and expectations
• Support field issues when needed
• Integrate AI tools and workflows into daily engineering and development processes
  

• 5+ years of combined firmware & hardware experience – Mandatory
• 3+ years of leadership / management experience – Mandatory
• 3+ years of customer-facing engineering experience – Mandatory
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end systems to mass production – Mandatory
• Strong system engineering mindset and ability to define and own full systems
• Strong experience in low-level embedded development (BSP, drivers, hardware interfaces)
• Experience developing across the full embedded stack, including application layer
• Experience with RTOS-based systems
• Experience with embedded architectures (e.g., ARM)
• Hands-on experience with board bring-up and HW/FW integration
• Ability to read schematics, work with datasheets, and debug at the hardware level
• High-level English (written and verbal) – Mandatory
• Background in medical regulated domains – Mandatory
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI into daily engineering workflows – Mandatory
• Experience using lab equipment such as: Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter (DVM), Logic Analyzer, Signal Generator
  

• Experience with multi-board systems and cabling design (Altium)
• Experience with embedded communication protocols:
• CAN, RS-485/422, I2C, SPI, UART, BLE/Wi-Fi
• Experience with MCUs such as:
• STM32, Nordic, ESP32, Microchip, RP
• Experience with Zyphire embedded systems
• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science
