Security Research Team Leader

We’re looking for a Security Research Team Leader to lead our detection research domain, manage a team of researchers and detection engineers, and translate deep security research into scalable, productized detection capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of research, product, and customers- ideal for someone who wants to shape both technology and teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead Vega’s detection research domain end-to-end, including threat research, offensive simulation, and the development of high-quality detection content, workflows, and automations.
• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of security researchers and detection engineers, setting technical direction, priorities, and quality standards.
• Drive detection research across emerging vulnerabilities, active campaigns, and real-world adversary techniques to continuously evolve Vega’s detection capabilities.
• Partner closely with Product, AI, and Engineering teams to influence Vega’s detection roadmap and translate research into scalable, customer-facing product features.
• Act as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert in detection and response, providing hands-on guidance, technical reviews, and feedback across Vega’s platform.
• Collaborate with Threat Response and Threat Intelligence teams to align research, detections, and real-world findings.
• Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and Vega’s external technical presence through blogs, briefings, webinars, and industry events.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, with deep expertise in detection engineering, security research, incident response, or threat hunting.
• 3+ years of experience leading technical teams in security research, detection engineering, or similar domains.
• Strong understanding of detection and response practices, incident response methodologies, and modern threat hunting approaches.
• Proven ability to design, review, and maintain high-quality detection content, advanced workflows, and security automations.
• Deep knowledge of adversary techniques, threat actor behavior, and real-world attack campaigns across diverse environments.
• Broad understanding of security architectures and telemetry across endpoint, network, cloud, identity, and application domains.
• Proficiency with query languages such as SQL, KQL, or SPL, and experience using them for large-scale log analysis and detection development.
• Experience working cross-functionally and influencing product direction alongside Product, Engineering, AI, and Threat Intelligence teams.
• Strong people leadership skills, including mentoring, technical guidance, performance management, and team development.
• Customer-facing experience, with the ability to engage directly with customers at a senior technical level.
• Excellent communication skills and full professional proficiency in English.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for customer engagements and POV support.
