Staff Product Engineer, Backend (Go + Java)

They are looking for a Staff Product Engineer to lead the architectural vision of the backend, joining the RevOps team. This team architects a usage based billing system with complex metering and automates the flow of data between the product, payment providers, cloud marketplaces, and internal reporting systems. You will not just write code. You will own the technical roadmap, drive economic efficiency in the data infrastructure, and mentor a team of engineers.

Salary Range

$125,000 - $142,000 USD per year

The Challenge You'll Tackle:

• Turn usage into revenue. The company charges based on data, so metering must be accurate. You will build systems that count every event, sync with payment providers, and ensure invoices are correct down to the cent.
• Drive reliability and risk management. You will own platform reliability and identify risks before they become incidents. You will foster a security first culture and ensure monitoring is world class.
• Provide mentorship and improve the process. You will define standards for code quality, testing, and observability. You will mentor engineers, review PRDs for technical feasibility, and simplify complex designs to align with product goals.

What Success Looks Like and How You'll Get There:

• Within 1 week, you will have shipped your first piece of production ready code.
• Within 3 months, you will extend the billing system, increase transparency into usage, and help customers maintain control over observability costs.
• Within 6 months, you will establish new architectural patterns in Go within the billing solution. You will actively mentor engineers across the organization and improve understanding of billing architecture and integrations with marketplace and CRM tools.
• Within 12 months, you will be a technical authority for backend strategy, guiding the team through major scaling challenges and shaping the product roadmap by bridging technical constraints and customer needs.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has experience with billing systems or usage based pricing models. Stripe API experience is a strong plus.
• Has deep architectural expertise in building and scaling distributed backend systems using Go. You understand trade offs and can explain them clearly. Java knowledge is a plus.
• Expertly leverages AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development and applies strong technical judgment to validate and own the final output.
• Understands that data accuracy is critical when revenue is involved. You test thoroughly because bugs directly impact the bottom line.
• Has a product mindset for internal tools and believes internal systems should be as polished as customer facing ones.
• Is a natural mentor and cultural leader with a track record of improving team processes and raising engineering quality.
• Has strong expertise in OpenTelemetry and monitoring, and improves observability practices across engineering.
