Director of Core Platform

One of our clients, a fast-growing deep-tech company developing advanced computing infrastructure, is looking to hire a Director of Platform.

The company builds sophisticated computing platforms used by leading technology companies and research organizations worldwide. Its systems combine high-performance hardware, embedded software, real-time control technologies, and distributed computing infrastructure to support highly demanding experimental and compute-intensive environments.

The platform integrates complex electronics, embedded systems, high-speed connectivity, and distributed software to deliver deterministic performance in complex engineering environments. These solutions power cutting-edge computing systems and are used by advanced engineering teams working on next-generation technologies.

The company is seeking a Director of Platform to lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization responsible for delivering the core hardware and software infrastructure powering its platform. The group develops tightly integrated systems spanning hardware design, embedded software, system connectivity, and platform architecture.

In this role, you will define the platform architecture and long-term roadmap while leading teams responsible for building robust and scalable systems that support both internal technology development and external customers. You will work closely with system architects, product leadership, and advanced technology teams to translate complex technical requirements into production-ready platforms.

This position requires strong technical leadership, system-level thinking, and the ability to guide large engineering organizations delivering complex integrated systems.

Key Responsibilities

Multi-Disciplinary Engineering Leadership

• Lead and grow a diverse engineering organization spanning hardware engineering (analog, digital, and mechanical), embedded software, low-level platform development, Linux and board support packages (BSP), and high-speed system connectivity.
• Drive collaboration across engineering domains to deliver tightly integrated hardware and software platforms.
• Establish engineering standards, development processes, and best practices across the organization.
• Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, reliability, and scale.

Platform Architecture & Technical Oversight

• Serve as a system-level technical leader guiding architectural decisions across hardware and software domains.
• Drive key platform trade-offs involving performance, scalability, reliability, and system integration.
• Review system designs and guide cross-disciplinary problem solving while enabling teams to execute independently.
• Ensure the platform architecture supports long-term product evolution and future technology development.

People & Organizational Leadership

• Build and mentor a strong leadership team across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Create a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and collaborative problem solving.
• Support the growth and development of engineering managers and senior technical leaders.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience developing complex systems combining hardware and software.
• 5+ years managing managers and leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations.
• Proven track record delivering integrated hardware/software platforms to production in high-performance environments.
• Strong system-level understanding of embedded systems, including hardware, firmware, Linux/BSP, and FPGA-based architectures.
• Demonstrated ability to define platform architecture and technical strategy while driving execution across large engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to influence across technical and organizational boundaries.
• B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Nice to Have

• Experience with high-speed digital systems and FPGA-based platforms.
• Background in semiconductor, advanced computing, communications, or other deep-tech industries.
• Experience building infrastructure platforms used in complex scientific or high-performance computing environments.
