Optical Design Engineer

A long-standing technology leader in the Augmented Reality (AR) sector is developing specialized optical components that redefine high-end visual displays.

Their technology powers smart glasses used in mission-critical environments, ranging from advanced medical suites to specialized aviation. With an extensive portfolio of dozens of patents, the company is a global authority in high-precision optical engineering, bridging the gap between complex physics and real-world applications.

The company is located in a prominent scientific and technological hub, easily accessible by train, and operates a hybrid work model.

Role Overview:

• Joining the Optical Design department to lead the planning and development of imaging and illumination systems.
• Performing advanced simulations to identify and mitigate complex optical phenomena such as reflections and stray light.
• Taking end-to-end responsibility for the development lifecycle from initial concept and architectural design to functional prototypes.
• Defining manufacturing requirements and collaborating closely with mechanical and materials engineering teams.
• Utilizing high-level programming for data analysis, modeling, and system optimization.

Requirements:

• Deep theoretical and practical understanding of both Geometric and Physical Optics – Mandatory.
• Proven professional experience in the design and analysis of complex Optical Systems – Mandatory.
• Strong programming skills in Python or MATLAB – Mandatory.
• Proficiency in optical design and simulation software (e.g., Zemax, LightTools, CODE V, or TracePro) – Significant Advantage.
• High-level proficiency in English (Reading/Writing) – Mandatory.
• Experience in the AR, Medical, or Defense sectors – Significant Advantage.
