Backend Developer (AI Commerce) | Python, GCP, Cloud Run, Kubernetes

Role

We are hiring a backend developer with strong fundamentals who wants to ship quickly using advanced development workflows and tools, including Claude Code. You will build core services that directly impact merchant revenue and shopper experience across visual discovery, matching sets, and AI first merchandising automation.

What you will do

• Build and own backend services that power AI commerce features: visual discovery, matching sets, recommendations, and merchandising automation
• Design and maintain APIs and data flows used by search, collection pages, and product recommendation experiences
• Improve performance, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency across high throughput production systems
• Collaborate closely with product, data, and frontend to deliver end to end features with short iteration cycles
• Use AI assisted development responsibly to accelerate delivery without compromising quality

Tech stack

• GCP (Cloud Run and Kubernetes)
• Python (core)
• Production grade monitoring, logging, CI CD, and high scale event processing

What we are looking for

• 3 to 6 years of professional backend experience (or equivalent proven experience shipping production systems)
• Strong backend foundations: APIs, databases, debugging, testing, performance, and distributed systems basics
• Ownership mindset: you can take a service from design to production and operate it
• Python experience, or strong backend experience in another language with willingness to ramp quickly
• Comfortable working in a fast paced startup environment with real scale and real customers

Great to have

• Hands on experience with GCP, Cloud Run, Kubernetes
• Experience with event pipelines, caching layers, search or recommendation systems
• Prior experience using Claude Code or similar tools as part of a modern engineering workflow
