The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary VP of Research to lead an elite security research organization within a cutting-edge cybersecurity company.

This is a highly visible executive role combining deep technical leadership, strategic ownership, and industry evangelism. You will define and drive the company’s threat research strategy, lead original vulnerability discovery efforts, and ensure the research program remains at the forefront of offensive security innovation.

Beyond leading a world-class research team, you will serve as a public thought leader—presenting at major global conferences, engaging with executive customers, and shaping the broader industry narrative around offensive security and adversarial research.

What You’ll Do

Research Leadership & Strategy

• Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of security and threat researchers.
• Define and execute a research roadmap balancing original vulnerability research with advanced threat intelligence.
• Drive discovery of novel attack surfaces across Windows, Linux, macOS, cloud environments, and emerging technologies such as LLMs.
• Foster a culture of innovation, rigor, and technical excellence.

Thought Leadership & Industry Presence

• Represent the research group as a primary spokesperson at leading international security conferences (e.g., Black Hat, DEF CON, RSA).
• Drive publication of high-impact research, white papers, technical blogs, and industry commentary.
• Build strong relationships within the global security research community and media.

Product & Business Alignment

• Collaborate closely with Product Management and R&D to translate research insights into impactful product capabilities.
• Ensure rapid response to emerging threats, enabling customers to stay protected against newly disclosed vulnerabilities and attack techniques.

Customer Engagement

• Act as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders (CISOs, CIOs) at strategic accounts.
• Support Sales and Customer Success with deep technical expertise during executive briefings and key engagements.

What Sets You Apart

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in security research (offensive security, vulnerability research, or threat intelligence).
• Proven experience leading and mentoring research teams, retaining top talent, and balancing creativity with delivery.
• Demonstrated experience presenting technical research at major international security conferences (examples required).
• Strong customer-facing experience, with the ability to communicate complex threats to executive audiences.
• Deep technical expertise in OS internals (Windows/Linux/macOS), reverse engineering, network protocols, and adversary tradecraft (MITRE ATT&CK framework).

Nice to Have

• Experience in startup or high-growth environments.
• Published CVEs or acknowledgments from major vendors (e.g., Microsoft, Apple).
• Active involvement in the open-source security community.
