Opmed.ai is a rapidly growing healthcare AI startup helping leading health systems optimize their operations. Our platform is already in use at major health systems and large networks such as Mayo Clinic and Geisinger, and we are backed by world-class funds including NFX and Grove.

We are looking for a Head of AI to lead the core intelligence of our platform, own our algorithmic and AI capability and strategy, and scale our models into real world impact. This is a senior leadership role, responsible for three AI teams, an traditional ML/DL team, an Algorithmic Optimization team and Agentic AI team, with overall responsibility for a group of around 12 people.

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of advanced algorithms for planning, scheduling, and resource allocation in complex, constrained environments with significant uncertanty.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of predictive models and optimization engines, from research and design to production deployment and monitoring at scale.
• Build, manage, and grow two high-performing teams, one focused on algorithmic optimization and scheduling and one focused on AI and ML, with overall responsibility for a group of about 10 engineers and researchers.
• Set technical strategy and roadmap for algorithms and AI across the company, in close collaboration with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams.
• Work with leadership to translate real-world hospital and health system challenges into robust algorithmic and AI solutions that deliver measurable value.
• Define and build a scalable algorithmic and data infrastructure that can support rapid experimentation and production workloads.
• Drive innovation in the use of LLMs and modern AI for both internal tools and customer-facing capabilities.

What you bring

• 7+ years of experience in startups, working on complex algorithmic or AI-driven products.
• Strong background in algorithm design for planning, scheduling, and automatic assignments, including work with advanced optimization and operations research methods.
• Hands on experience with optimization algorithms, tools and libraries such as OR-Tools, Gurobi, CPLEX, Hexaly, Fico or similar optimization engines.
• Practical experience with regression and classification models based on both tabular and non tabular data (structured and unstructured).
• Solid background in LLMs and modern deep learning, and how to apply them to real products.
• Proven ability to bring models into production environments, including performance, reliability, and observability at scale.
• Experience operating at large scale, handling high volumes of data and traffic, and designing for reliability and cost.
• Both strong scientific and algorithmic thinking and deep engineering understanding, comfortable moving between research and implementation.
• 4+ years of experience managing and leading teams, including hiring, mentoring, and growing senior talent, preferably at the level of multiple teams or a group.
• Strong familiarity with cloud services (such as AWS, Azure or GCP) and modern data and ML infrastructure.
• Proven track record building scalable algorithmic infrastructure and leading in environments with constraints, uncertainty, and changing priorities.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working with ambiguity, building processes from scratch, and adjusting course quickly.
