Forward Deployed AI Engineer

About the Role

Every enterprise runs on internal services - IT, HR, Finance, Ops. We're building AI Workers that handle these workflows autonomously. As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you'll deploy them inside real companies and write the logic that makes them work.

The core of the role is designing AI agents - writing the prompts, logic, and workflows that make them effective. You'll use our AI Worker platform to build and configure agents for customers, defining their behaviors and decision-making. When agents need custom integrations or API connections, you'll lead the build and may contribute code yourself to support them. This is hands-on work: customer discovery, solution scoping, implementation, and enablement—translating real business needs into working AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement AI agents and workflows for enterprise customers using the ai.work platform
• Write and optimize prompts and agent logic to solve specific customer problems
• Partner with customers on discovery—understanding their workflows, scoping solutions, and training them on the system
• Gather test cases and validate agent behavior against real customer scenarios
• Support building custom integrations when agents need to connect to customer APIs and systems.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to feed learnings back into the platform

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong interest in AI/LLM applications and prompt/context engineering
• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with APIs and backend development (Python, TypeScript, or similar)
• Enthusiasm for thriving and working autonomously in a fast-paced, innovative startup environment
• Eagerness to work directly with customers and understand their business context

Bonus

• Experience building AI agents, RAG pipelines, or LLM-powered workflows
• Background in professional services, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
• Familiarity with enterprise SaaS tools and integrations
