Role Summary

As a Tech Lead within Payoneer’s Business Applications domain, reporting to the Domain Architect, you will be a key driver of our cloud‑native transformation. You will lead the modernization of legacy systems, build foundational infrastructure, and elevate engineering practices as the organization transitions to a modern, scalable, cloud‑ready technology ecosystem.

This role is ideal for a highly independent, analytically driven engineer with deep backend and DevOps expertise, a passion for dismantling monolithic systems, and a desire to shape the next generation of Payoneer technology.

What You’ll Do

• Lead Cloud‑Native Modernization: Drive the evolution of Business Applications into cloud‑first, event‑driven, API‑centric services. Work closely with the Domain Architect to design target architectures and guide teams through migration strategies.
• Own Infrastructure & DevOps Foundations: Define and implement CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, GitOps workflows, observability practices, automated testing strategies, and security‑by‑design in alignment with Payoneer’s modernized SDLC and “Shift Left” engineering principles.
• Break Down Legacy Systems: Analyze complex legacy components, identify decoupling opportunities, and lead the technical execution for transitioning monolithic systems into modular, scalable services.
• Provide Hands‑On Technical Leadership: Set coding standards, mentor engineers, review designs, and guide teams towards resilient, high‑quality backend engineering. Foster autonomy, clarity, and architectural discipline across development teams.
• Partner Across the Organization: Collaborate with product managers, architects, SRE, appsec, data teams, and operational partners to ensure that modernization efforts deliver real business value, meet compliance and reliability needs, and integrate smoothly within the broader Payoneer ecosystem.
  
  

• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to dissect complex systems and define clear modernization strategies.
  
  

• Comfortable leading large‑scale initiatives with minimal supervision and driving technical outcomes across multiple teams.
  
  

• A demonstrated passion for modernizing systems, replacing outdated technologies with cloud‑native patterns, and eliminating technical debt at scale.
  
  

• Experience building, deploying, and optimizing production applications in cloud environments (AWS highly preferred).
• Skilled with infrastructure‑as‑code, container orchestration, networking, security, and distributed systems practices.
  
  

• Proficiency in modern backend languages and frameworks, including strong hands-on experience in at least two backend stacks.‑on experience in at least two backend stacks.
• Experience with Node.js is considered an advantage due to its prominence within Business Applications.
  
  

• Deep understanding of CI/CD, GitOps, observability, monitoring, automated testing, and environment management.
• Familiarity with modern DevSecOps principles and shift‑left engineering methodologies.
  
  

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• 3+ years of technical leadership in an engineering or platform/infrastructure role.
• Proven experience leading modernization or cloud migration programs.
• Expertise with microservices, event‑driven architecture, API design, and distributed systems.
• Experience working in fintech or regulated environments is a plus.
  
  

• Play a central role in Payoneer’s cloud modernization journey.
• Influence the architecture and infrastructure of core financial systems used globally.
• Work alongside top domain architects, tech leads, and engineering leadership.
• Shape engineering culture, uplift craftsmanship, and drive long‑term technology excellence.
