About us
flō is a fast-moving technology startup based in Israel, developing breakthrough digital printing technologies and sophisticated industrial equipment platforms for optical lens coatings.
We are seeking a Senior Materials Researcher to join our cross-disciplinary R&D team and lead the invention, development, and optimization of liquid-phase formulations for inkjet-based optical coatings.
Your mission is to formulate inkjet coatings and ensure our multilayered coatings system meets rigorous optical performance requirements while satisfying the technical constraints of our inkjet delivery systems. This role requires a proven track record of taking projects from conceptual requirements to validated formulations with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Research & Formulation Expertise
- Develop and optimize complex, multilayered liquid coatings, balancing ink properties to ensure "jetability", system stability and coating performance.
- Design, plan, and analyze experiments to qualify materials.
- Innovate curing solutions, utilizing hands-on experience with UV-curing and thermal curing mechanisms.
- Document experimental work, providing technical insights and data-driven recommendations to the R&D team.
- Manage multiple formulation activities and priorities in a dynamic, "Beta" environment where rapid iteration is required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead end-to-end development of chemical solutions, translating complex system requirements into material properties.
- Work closely with R&D groups, including Mechanics, System, and Automation teams, to troubleshoot material-hardware interactions.
- Act as the materials representative within multidisciplinary task forces and project teams.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of industrial R&D experience, specifically in the formulation of coatings, inks, or functional polymers.
Technical Skills
- Profound understanding of polymer chemistry and rheology control for precision delivery systems (Inkjet or similar).
- Hands-on expertise in UV and thermal curing systems.
- Proven ability to design and execute experiments for complex chemical data analysis.
- Working experience in multidisciplinary environments, bridging the gap between chemistry and hardware.
Soft Skills
- Strong drive for excellence and the independence to take a project from concept to validation.
- Innovative and proactive mindset, comfortable with the rapid pivots of a startup environment.
- Highly collaborative team player with the ability to present complex chemical data to non-chemists.
- High level of written and verbal communication in English.
Key Competencies
- Systems thinking and holistic problem-solving, including hands-on laboratory work.
- Startup Agility: Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
