Senior Backend Engineer

About the role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll architect and build the systems that power HiOctave’s agentic AI platform — from real-time orchestration and automation logic to scalable APIs and data pipelines.

You’ll work at the core of our stack, combining Node.js and Python to build high-performance, reliable backend services that power our voice and digital agents, analytics, and AI integrations. This is a hands-on role for a builder who loves elegant systems, clean architecture, and scaling fast without breaking things.

What you’ll do:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Node.js and Python.
• Architect APIs, data flows, and event-driven systems that power AI + human interactions.
• Integrate large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI workflows into production.
• Build and orchestrate multi-step, reasoning-based AI workflows using frameworks like LangGraph (a strong plus).
• Own backend performance, reliability, and infrastructure scalability.
• Work closely with frontend, AI, and product teams to design cross-functional features.
• Manage databases, caching, and distributed systems with strong data modeling practices.
• Deploy, monitor, and optimize services in a modern cloud-native environment (AWS / GCP).
• Uphold strong engineering standards, testing, and CI/CD practices.
• You’re comfortable working in a microservices-based architecture.
• You have experience with scalable systems, distributed architectures, and managing real production workloads.
• You enjoy taking end-to-end ownership and aren’t afraid to explore new areas or figure things out as you go.
• You’re excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities shift and decisions are made quickly.

What we’re looking for:

• BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, building production-grade systems.
• Deep expertise in Node.js and Python, with solid understanding of async and concurrency.
• Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and DevOps/infra best practices.
• Strong knowledge of databases (SQL + NoSQL), caching, and distributed architectures.
• Experience designing APIs and microservices for scale.
• Familiarity with LLM integration, LangGraph, or other agent orchestration frameworks is a strong plus.
• Passion for clean architecture, automation, and solving hard problems elegantly.
