PLC Software Engineer

Beth-El Industries Ltd. (www.beind.com) specializes in advanced air filtration and AC systems for shelters, military vehicles and trains. We are seeking a skilled PLC software engineer with experience in Siemens PLC programming, to support the development of shelter control and communication solutions across the full product lifecycle.

Role Description

In this role you will design, implement and maintain PLC/industrial control software that coordinates shelter subsystems. Your focus is reliable operation, maintainability and strong diagnostics in a system environment (lab and field).

Key responsibilities

• Develop, extend and maintain PLC/control software for shelter control systems across the lifecycle (engineering, testing, commissioning support and service).
• Translate functional requirements into robust logic: operating modes, sequences/state logic, interlocks, alarms/events, fault handling and service/maintenance features.
• Integrate and parameterize subsystems and field components (sensors, actuators, drives and monitoring units) and validate correct end-to-end behavior.
• Perform hands-on hardware bring-up and commissioning activities in the lab and in the field, including I/O validation, sensor and actuator check
• Implement and troubleshoot communication between controllers, operator interfaces and higher-level components (e.g., monitoring servers/edge devices) as required by the architecture.
• Apply basic industrial networking knowledge to configure and troubleshoot connectivity (IP addressing, subnetting fundamentals, device configuration and communication paths).
• Plan and execute tests, contribute to acceptance activities and drive structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Produce clear technical documentation (functional descriptions, change logs, test/commissioning notes) and collaborate with electrical, hardware, mechanical and system engineering teams.
• Provide remote support and, when needed, assist on-site during commissioning and customer support, even abroad if required

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and debugging PLC/industrial control software.
• Comfortable working hands-on with hardware during commissioning and troubleshooting
• Strong understanding of industrial control concepts: deterministic logic design, sequencing/state machines, safe interlocks and comprehensive alarm/diagnostics strategies.
• Basic networking competence in an industrial/OT context (IP/subnetting fundamentals; understanding how components communicate across switches/routers).
• Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols and interfaces (e.g. PROFINET/Profibus, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA or similar)
• Experience working from requirements/specifications and delivering maintainable, well-documented solutions.
• Structured, quality-minded approach to troubleshooting in a system environment; ability to read and work with electrical schematics
• English at a high level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Siemens S7-1200/S7-1500 PLCs, WinCC (Unified/Comfort), Startdrive and drive integration.
• HMI/SCADA integration experience
• Practical troubleshooting tools/techniques (e.g., packet capture basics; managed switch features such as mirror/SPAN ports; VLAN fundamentals).
• Strong engineering discipline: version control (e.g., Git), clear change/release notes and structured commissioning/test protocols.
• Basic awareness of OT security and secure remote service concepts (e.g., VPN/firewall principles).
• Willingness to travel occasionally for customer support and commissioning.
