Hands-on R&D Manager – Distributed Data, Spark & AI (Cyber Intelligence)

We’re hiring a hands-on R&D Manager to lead a small, high-impact engineering team building cyber intelligence products powered by large-scale, distributed data.

This role is not for managers who moved away from hands-on work. We are looking for someone who still designs systems, reviews code, and owns production-grade architecture.

• Lead a small R&D team while remaining deeply hands-on in system design and implementation
• Own architecture and development of large-scale distributed data systems processing cyber telemetry
• Design, build, and operate Apache Spark pipelines in production on AWS
• Build and deploy applied ML and AI-driven workflows used in real investigation and decision systems
• Partner closely with Product and Research to turn intelligence needs into scalable, measurable platforms
  

• 3+ years leading an R&D or engineering team with direct ownership of delivery
• Strong hands-on AWS experience in production environments
• Proven production experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing
• Strong system design skills for large-scale data platforms
• Excellent communication skills and experience working in fast-moving startup environments
  

• Databricks experience in production
• Applied ML / data science experience in real-world systems
• Experience building AI / LLM-based agent workflows in production
• Java backend experience

If your background is mainly people management or high-level architecture without hands-on ownership, this role is probably not the right fit.
