Optical Engineer

Join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing advanced optical systems for cutting edge defense applications, from concept through serial production.

The position includes:

• End to end optical channel design from requirements definition and concept, through detailed design and optimization, simulations and sensitivity analyses, supplier and manufacturing technology selection, support of assembly and design verification testing, and transfer to serial production

• Optical design of observation channels, imaging systems, laser and illumination systems from the visible to the far infrared, while meeting optical performance requirements and constraints of volume, weight, and materials

• Stray light and mechanical tolerance analyses, coating selection, and evaluation of thermal effects, including solutions for manufacturing deviations and changing environmental conditions

• Preparation of requirement specifications and drawings, leading design reviews, supplier interface, planning acceptance tests and manufacturing processes, and hands on assembly and alignment of optical components and assemblies

• Evaluation and implementation of advanced optical technologies such as flat optics, adaptive optics, advanced detectors, and more

• Collaboration with multiple professional disciplines including mechanical integration and analysis, control, electronics, and image processing

What we’re looking for:

• BSc or MSc in Physics or Engineering with specialization in optics

• At least 5 years of experience in optical design and simulations including thermal aspects

• Experience with fixed focal length and zoom lenses, including achromatic and athermal designs

• Experience in design and analysis of refractive, reflective, and diffractive optical systems

• Experience working with optical measurement equipment including collimators, interferometers, integrating spheres, black bodies, and various cameras

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage subcontractors

• Familiarity with optical component manufacturing technologies, materials, and coatings is an advantage

• Experience in defense companies and observation systems in particular is an advantage

• Experience using artificial intelligence tools is an advantage
