Database Engineer - PostgreSQL

📍 Hybrid position – Israel only

We are looking for a Senior PostgreSQL DBA with strong, hands-on experience in production PostgreSQL environments.

This role is intended for a PostgreSQL-focused professional who can independently own, design, operate, and troubleshoot complex PostgreSQL infrastructures under load and availability constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Full ownership of PostgreSQL production environments, including architecture, availability, performance, and reliability
• Design, implement, and operate high availability PostgreSQL architectures
• Manage and troubleshoot replication topologies (streaming, logical, cascading replicas)
• Deep involvement in performance tuning at all levels:

Query plans (EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE)

Indexing strategies (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN)

Autovacuum tuning and bloat handling

Memory, WAL, checkpoints, and I/O tuning

• Handle frequent context switching across multiple PostgreSQL clusters, customers, and workloads
• Manage PostgreSQL environments integrated with multiple internal and external systems
• Perform root cause analysis for complex production incidents
• Plan and execute major version upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime
• Implement backup and recovery strategies (PITR, base backups, WAL archiving) and regularly test restores
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for production systems

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL in production environments
• Proven experience operating high-load and/or high-availability PostgreSQL systems
• Strong, real-world experience with PostgreSQL replication and HA solutions
• (e.g. Streaming Replication, Logical Replication, Patroni, etc.)
• Deep understanding of PostgreSQL behavior under load and in failure scenarios
• Extensive experience with performance troubleshooting and live system optimization
• Strong Linux fundamentals (processes, memory, disk I/O, networking basics)
• Experience with backup and recovery mechanisms (pg_basebackup, WAL, PITR)
• Self-managed and capable of taking full technical ownership
• Comfortable working in dynamic environments with multiple concurrent issues
• Fluent in Hebrew and English
