Research and Development Team Manager

We’re hiring an experienced R&D Team Lead to join a fast-growing, product-based SaaS company in the financial software space. This role is a unique opportunity to lead a cross-functional team and own end-to-end delivery for a cloud platform used by thousands of customers.

What you’ll do

• Lead and manage a cross-functional R&D team of 5–7 engineers (Backend Python, Frontend Angular, QA)
• Own end-to-end product development: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and production monitoring & troubleshooting
• Provide hands-on technical leadership: architecture design, coding when needed, and thorough code reviews
• Partner closely with Product Managers and Architects to define scope, prioritize the backlog, and deliver high-quality features
• Drive engineering best practices: clean code, testing, CI/CD, performance, reliability, and security
• Be accountable for delivery, quality, velocity, and production stability
• Define team goals, KPIs, and success metrics
• Mentor and develop team members, and support hiring/onboarding
• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement

What we’re looking for (Must-have)

• Native-level Ukrainian or Russian and strong English communication
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years of Python in production
• 3+ years as an R&D Team Lead, leading cross-functional teams (backend, frontend, QA) in a production environment
• Proven experience managing remote teams in a fully distributed, remote-only environment
• Experience in a product-based company (not outsourcing/project-based)
• Strong backend experience building scalable SaaS systems: REST APIs, microservices, async processing, testing
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Helm)
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and technical trade-offs

Tech environment

Python (Django/FastAPI), PostgreSQL/MSSQL, Celery/RabbitMQ, Redis

Cloud experience is a plus (Azure advantage)

Event-driven and distributed systems familiarity is a plus

Nice to have

• Experience with Excel add-ins or data-heavy applications
• Startup / high-growth SaaS experience
