Role Overview

We are an HVAC company with 12+ active WordPress websites. We are seeking a Senior WordPress Web Developer to lead technical strategy, infrastructure, performance, and security, while mentoring developers and owning the reliability of our web stack.

This role is hands-on and architectural—you will not just build sites, but ensure they are fast, secure, scalable, and monitored.

Core Responsibilities:

WordPress Architecture & Development

• Lead development of custom WordPress themes and plugins
• Build and maintain custom functions, hooks, and integrations
• Enforce best practices for performance, security, and maintainability
• Troubleshoot complex WordPress, PHP, and database issues

Infrastructure & Server Management

• Choose and manage servers (VPS / Cloud / Managed WP)
• Optimize server performance and resource usage
• Implement mirroring and redundancy strategies
• Configure staging, production, and backup environments
• Performance & Speed Optimization
• Optimize page speed, Core Web Vitals, and TTFB
• Implement caching strategies (server-side + plugin-based)
• Diagnose slow queries and PHP bottlenecks
• Optimize images, scripts, and asset delivery
• Ensure fast global delivery using CDN

DNS, SSL & Email Management

• Manage DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
• Configure email DNS for transactional and hosted email services
• Implement and renew SSL certificates
• Troubleshoot DNS propagation and email delivery issues
• Implement server and WordPress security best practices
• Harden servers (firewalls, permissions, fail2ban, SSH security)
• Monitor and respond to security incidents

Backups, Monitoring & Reliability

• Design and manage automated backup strategies
• Ensure backup integrity and restoration testing
• Implement uptime and performance monitoring
• Respond to outages and incidents
• Maintain documentation for recovery procedures

Plugins & Third-Party Integrations

• Evaluate, select, and manage third-party plugins
• Replace bloated plugins with custom solutions when needed
• Maintain compatibility during WordPress and PHP updates
• Integrate external services via APIs|

Leadership & Team Ownership

• Act as technical lead for the WordPress team
• Set coding standards and workflows
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers
• Collaborate with designers, project managers, and stakeholders
• Make final technical decisions

Required Skills Must-Have

• Cloudflare experience
