QA Engineer - System Owner (Hands-On)

About the Role

TeraCyte is looking for an experienced QA Engineer to take ownership of quality across the entire TeraCyte system. 

This role combines deep hands-on testing, system-level responsibility, and leadership the QA process in TeraCyte. 

Key Responsibilities 

System-Level QA Ownership 

• Own end-to-end quality of the full TeraCyte system (hardware, imager software, pipeline, integrations). 
• Define and maintain QA strategy, test coverage, and quality gates across components. 
• Identify quality risks early and drive mitigation plans. 

Hands-On Testing  

• Perform manual, exploratory, and scenario-based testing on real systems. 
• Validate full workflows: from imaging → data processing → outputs presentation. 
• Reproduce, investigate, and clearly document complex system bugs. 
• Verify fixes and regressions across versions. 

Coordination & Collaboration 

• Work closely with the other team members, providing guidance, review, and alignment. 
• Ensure clear ownership split and no quality gaps between domains. 
• Synchronize testing efforts across releases and features. 
• Work closely with developers, algorithm engineers, product, and system engineers. 
• Be involved in release readiness and go/no-go decisions. 

Requirements 

Must Have 

• 3–6 years of QA experience (system / product / integration level). 
• Strong hands-on testing mindset – not automation-only. 
• Experience testing complex systems (HW + SW, distributed systems, data pipelines, or similar). 
• High level of independence and ownership – able to plan, execute, and prioritize QA work without close supervision. 
• System-level thinking (“big picture”) – understands how components interact and how issues propagate across the system. 
• AI-driven and modern productivity tools to improve testing, investigation, documentation, and efficiency. 
• Proactive and initiative-driven – identifies gaps, risks, and improvements without waiting for instructions. 
• Creative and exploratory mindset – able to design smart test scenarios beyond written requirements. 
• Clear communication and documentation skills – able to explain complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders 

Nice to Have 

• Experience with imaging systems, hardware-software integration, or data-heavy systems. 
• Some exposure to test automation (not mandatory). 
• Experience in mentoring or guiding (even informally).
