About the Role

Genda - a fast-moving startup operating within Buildots

Genda is building a real-time field-management platform used on construction sites around the world. As part of our expanding R&D group, you will join a small, highly skilled team responsible for developing and scaling our core Android application - a mission-critical tool used daily by field teams, supervisors, and on-site personnel.

This is not greenfield; the app has been evolving for several years and includes a wide range of features, background services, integrations, and complex real-world logic. You will take ownership of substantial parts of the codebase, improve performance and maintainability, and drive the next generation of mobile capabilities in a product used in rugged environments and real construction workflows.

What You’ll Do:

• Build, maintain, and evolve our core Android application written in Kotlin.
• Take ownership of complex features, background workers/services, and large sections of the codebase.
• Work closely with product, UX, backend, and hardware teams to deliver a mobile experience that supports real-time field operations.
• Implement integrations with on-site hardware and sensors as part of Genda’s platform ecosystem.
• Work hands-on with Firestore and Firebase as core components of our data architecture.
• Contribute to backend logic through Firebase Cloud Functions (TypeScript/JS) as part of your role.
• Improve performance, reliability, offline support, scalability, and maintainability of the app.
• Participate in architectural decisions, code reviews, and cross-team design discussions.
• Help shape the mobile engineering culture of a 5-developer autonomous team operating within Buildots.

Requierments:

• 5+ years of professional experience building Android applications.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin and solid understanding of modern Android development practices.
• Experience working with background services/workers, large codebases, and long-running features.
• Deep understanding of Android architecture patterns, state management, and responsive design.
• Hands-on experience with Firebase and Firestore (big advantage).
• Experience with version control (Git) and standard CI/CD practices.
• Ability to navigate, untangle, and improve an existing, multi-year codebase.
• Comfortable working closely with product teams and real customers’ workflows.
• Strong ownership mindset, excellent communication skills, and fluency in English.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with cross-platform development frameworks (especially Flutter).
• Experience building tools in the construction-tech, IoT, or hardware-integrated domains.
• Experience with Firebase Cloud Functions or other serverless backends.
