Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer / Administrator - Modernisation Focus
Our consultancy client is expanding their engineering team and is seeking an experienced Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer / Administrator with a strong interest in mainframe modernisation. This is a hybrid role based in Tel Aviv, where you will play a key part in supporting and transforming mission-critical mainframe environments for global enterprise customers.
This position is heavily focused on modernising legacy z/OS environments, optimising system performance, and enabling the transition of traditional mainframe workloads into more scalable, automated, and cloud-integrated architectures.
You will work closely with platform, architecture, and application teams to support ongoing transformation initiatives.
Skills & Experience:
- 4+ years’ experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer / Sysadmin
- Strong knowledge of z/OS internals, JES2/JES3, RACF, SMP/E, IPL, IPCS, and system utilities
- Proven experience supporting mainframe upgrades, migrations, or modernisation efforts
- Understanding of automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code concepts (REXX, CLIST, Python, Ansible for z/OS)
- Familiarity with hybrid/cloud integrations or modern mainframe toolsets is a major advantage
- Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in transformation-focused environments
Nice-to-Have:
- Exposure to DB2, CICS, MQ, IMS, or other enterprise subsystems
- Experience working with DevOps pipelines, API gateways, or containerisation on/around mainframe
- Background in performance engineering or capacity planning for modern workloads
- Experience with IBM z/OSMF, Zowe, or open-source tooling on mainframe
