About the Role
We are looking for a computational biology researcher to join our multidisciplinary team of structural biologists, computational biologists, protein engineers and software engineers. As part of Scala’s research team, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of Scala’s computational design platform, also providing hands-on biological, algorithmic, and data-driven support for ongoing protein-design projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, integrate and test new components into Scala’s computational pipeline.
- Explore and extend Scala’s technology into new application areas within protein engineering.
- Support Scala’s ongoing protein design projects with algorithmic and analytical expertise.
- Incorporate state-of-the-art machine learning models for structure prediction, scoring, and design.
- Stay current with advances in computational biology, protein modeling, and AI-based design methods.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent.
- Proficiency in python.
- Strong algorithmic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate theoretical ideas into practical solutions for real biological challenges.
- Highly responsible with great attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Fast learner and proven ability to master new domains.
- Advantage: Experience working with biological (wet lab) data and its interpretation.
- Advantage: experience with Rosetta modeling, protein design AI-models (MPNN etc) or protein structure prediction models (Alpha-Fold, Boltz etc).
- Advantage: general grasp of AI models’ capabilities and limits.
