About the Role 

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to build the core infrastructure of our AI-powered FP&A platform.

You’ll work in a 3-person engineering team, building major backend systems from scratch and deploying them to production on AWS. Your focus will be on delivering a fast, reliable MVP used by real customers, with a strong emphasis on clean architecture, iteration speed, and ownership.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys early-stage products, making architectural decisions, and seeing their work directly impact customers.

We expect strong development practices in versioning, testing, integration and deployment automation, breaking work into small testable increments, and communicating effectively with the team. 

What You'll Do

• Design and build the core backend systems of a web-based SaaS platform 
• Implement backend data processing, background workers, and scheduled jobs 
• Architect, manage and optimize production databases 
• Build and maintain authentication and authorization flows 
• Develop clean, modular services in Python (FastAPI/Django) and/or Node.js (Express/NestJS) 
• Collaborate with ML and cloud engineers on deployments, pipelines, and integrations 
• Contribute to a fast-moving, MVP-focused build cycle
• Follow strong engineering practices: testing, version control, CI/CD, and documentation 
• Optionally, own or help manage data connectivity and automation flows (e.g., n8n integrations)

What We're Looking For (Must-Haves)

• 2+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Proficiency in Python (FastAPI/Django) and/or Node.js (Express/NestJS) 
• Experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Solid understanding of API design and backend architecture
• Hands-on experience with testing, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD
• Knowledge of vector databases, event-driven architecture (SQS, EventBridge), or integration tools (n8n, Zapier) - AWS Experience is a strong plus. 
• Ability to work autonomously, break work into small increments, and iterate quickly
• Clear communicator who can reason through trade-offs and decisions
• Ability to work flexible hours when needed
