We’re looking for a hands-on VP of Software Engineering / R&D

We are searching for a VP of Software Engineering / R&D who was born in engineering, someone who has spent their career building complex, large-scale cloud systems in Go and thrives in data-intensive environments. You have deep technical roots, a security-first engineering mindset, and a passion for building platforms that are scalable, robust, and secure by design.

You’ve grown from IC to technical leader not just by writing exceptional software, but by teaching others how to build secure, reliable, cost-aware systems. This role requires someone who understands cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, CSPM and CAASM models, and the financial governance of cloud environments (FinOps). You’ll lead engineering excellence, guide R&D innovation, and shape the future of our cloud platform.

• Define and lead the long-term architecture of a distributed, cloud-native platform built primarily in Go.
• Champion security-by-design principles across the engineering organisation.
• Lead architectural decisions around CSPM, CAASM, identity, secrets management, IAM, multi-tenant isolation, and secure data boundaries.
• Establish secure coding standards, threat modelling practices, and secure CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with Security, Data and DevOps to enforce compliance, governance, and continuous monitoring across all environments.

• Lead, develop, and mentor engineering leaders and senior ICs across backend, data, platform, and DevOps.
• Build a culture where innovation, secure engineering, and technical precision thrive.
• Hire world-class talent and grow future technical leaders.
• Run engineering operating rhythms: architecture councils, security reviews, postmortems, and technical deep dives.

• Oversee the delivery of complex R&D projects with predictability, quality, and high secure-by-default standards.
• Partner closely with Product to marry innovation with stable, scalable execution.
• Ensure teams can move fast while maintaining operational integrity, resilience, and compliance.

• Guide teams building high-performance, concurrent, data-heavy systems using Go.
• Architect solutions that operate at scale across ingestion pipelines, real-time systems, and multi-region deployments.
• Apply FinOps practices to ensure cloud efficiency, cost accountability, and transparent resource usage.
• Drive operational excellence across uptime, latency, observability, and system health metrics.

• 10+ years building and scaling distributed systems in Golang within large-scale, secure, cloud-native, data-intensive environments.
• Extensive experience in microservices, event-driven systems, and high-throughput distributed architectures.
• 5 years leading leaders, building the future leadership teams of the engineering functions.

• Strong cybersecurity mindset and proven application of secure engineering principles.
• Hands-on understanding of CSPM (Cloud Security Posture Management) and CAASM (Cyber Asset Attack Surface Management).
• Ability to drive secure architecture, threat modelling, and compliance frameworks at org scale.

• Successfully led engineering organisations of 20+ through both managers and senior ICs.
• Ability to develop leaders, mentor rising engineers, and shape a high-trust engineering culture.
• Skilled communicator who can translate deep engineering concepts into clear business value.

• Strong understanding of cloud cost optimisation, budgeting, unit economics, and resource forecasting.
• Experience applying FinOps practices to scale infrastructure intelligently and efficiently.

• Lead the engineering and R&D function of a fast-scaling, cloud-native platform.
• Shape the platform architecture, security posture, and long-term technical direction.
• Mentor an engineering organisation hungry to learn from a leader with true depth.
• Build secure, innovative, high-performance systems that push boundaries in cloud engineering.
