Deriva is building the AI-Driven Variant Intelligence Platform — a system that helps genomic scientists interpret DNA variants with speed, clarity, and confidence.

We train neural networks and build world-class agents that think like expert analysts — connecting evidence, explaining conclusions, and adapting as guidelines evolve.

The bottleneck in genomics has moved from sequencing to analysis. Deriva’s mission is to close that gap and make genetic interpretation as routine and actionable as a blood test.

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Lead to join our core team — someone who wants to build from zero to one, shape the startup, and have a massive impact on both product and culture.

You’ll work directly with the founder, lead product and architecture decisions, and ship features that power real genetic discoveries.

You’ll own the full stack — from Python and AI pipelines to React dashboards — and bring clarity, speed, and taste to every build.

• Architect, design, and ship core platform components (Python, NestJS, React).
• Lead and mentor a small our core engineering team.
• Scale Deriva’s in-house agents systems.
• Translate complex product requirements into clear, explainable software.
• Balance rapid delivery with long-term system elegance.
• Shape the technical direction, tools, and engineering culture of Deriva.
  

You’re a builder-leader — someone who codes, thinks, and leads by example.

You love solving hard problems, learning fast, and creating things that matter.

You must:

4. Solve complex problems and prioritize with clarity.
5. Learn continuously — in and beyond programming.
6. Communicate at a high level of English (reading, writing, speaking).

8. Love software engineering — and do it out of passion.
9. Excels both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum:

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Deep experience in Python, TypeScript, React, and NestJS.
• Proven record of building and shipping products end-to-end.
• Strong understanding of scalable systems and modern API design.
• Curiosity and drive to work on state of the art AI agents
• Been part of the core team — one of the first engineers in a startup that raised at least a Seed round.
