Job: System Engineer (Optical AR)

The Job in a Nutshell

We're a fast-paced AR startup looking for a "hands-on" System Engineer. Your main mission will be to take our augmented reality optical system from a working prototype all the way to the production line. You will be the technical leader responsible for working with engineering, both inside our team and with our external partners, to make this happen.

What You Must Have (Required)

● Degree: A Bachelor's or Master's degree (BSc/MSc) in a technical field like Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering.

● Experience: 5+ years of experience in system engineering or product development, ideally in AR/VR, consumer electronics, or the optics industry.

● Hands-On Builder: You are expected to actively build, test, and fix prototypes yourself, not just manage others.

● From Concept to Prototype: You must have a proven track record of taking a complex hardware idea, breaking it down into technical requirements and a build plan, and leading the team to a finished, working prototype.

● Optical Skills: Real, hands-on experience building, aligning, and testing complex, high-precision optical systems.

● Supplier Management: Experience working directly with external vendors and manufacturers (e.g., for custom parts). This includes setting technical specs, checking quality, and managing the relationship.

● Project Management: Strong skills in managing schedules, budgets, and technical risks for complex engineering projects.

● Broad Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of the fundamentals of optics, electronics, and mechanical engineering. You must be ableto "speak the language" of all three.

● Communication: Excellent communication skills. You need to be able to lead diverse teams and clearly explain complex technical problems to both engineers and non-technical people.

What We'd Love to See (Preferred)

● An advanced degree (Master's or PhD).

● Experience with advanced optics, such as metasurfaces or metalenses.

● Experience with semiconductor-style manufacturing (fabs, wafers, coatings, inspection).

● Hands-on experience working in a clean room.

● Direct experience with AR/VR technology (like waveguides, near-eye displays, or micro-displays).

● You enjoy the fast-paced, "wear-many-hats" culture of a startup.

● Experience managing projects that involve external partner companies.

● Familiarity with software like Zemax (optical simulation) or SolidWorks (3D CAD).
