What You’ll Do
- Handle end-to-end trouble tickets, including troubleshooting and resolution.
- Prioritize multiple tasks and tickets to balance customer and internal needs.
- Support daily operations of the data center, including provisioning, cabling, and maintenance.
- Configure and install network and server equipment for customers and internal teams.
- Apply light scripting and command-line operations in Linux and Windows environments to support provisioning, diagnostics, and automation.
- Work independently or collaboratively at Summit’s data center facilities, making sound judgments on when to escalate issues.
- Stay engaged with Summit internal communications and company-wide announcements.
- Perform additional data center-related duties as needed.
- Clear, effective communication with on-site personnel, remote customers, and vendors.
- High-quality execution of hardware installations, upgrades, and decommissions (servers, network devices, racks).
- Accurate and timely responses to tickets, upholding Summit’s standards for remote hands support.
- Organized and up-to-date documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- A clean, well-maintained, and compliant colocation environment.
- Bring strong troubleshooting and fault isolation experience, with the ability to decide the best path forward under pressure.
- Are comfortable balancing multiple priorities using a ticketing system while keeping a customer-first mindset.
- Have at least 2 years of experience in a data center or technical support environment.
- Understand common Linux distributions (Ubuntu Server LTS, Alma, Rocky) and Microsoft Windows Server (2019–2025).
- Can perform basic scripting and terminal operations to streamline configuration and troubleshooting.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Have the flexibility to work on a designated shift, with occasional adjustments for 24/7/365 coverage.
- Can lift up to 75 lbs., work on ladders, and safely operate hand/power tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, and standard IT ticketing platforms.
- Familiar with enterprise-grade data center hardware, including Dell PowerEdge servers and Juniper networking equipment.
- Capable of performing physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of x86-64 server hardware and related components.
- Knowledgeable in structured cabling practices, including cable termination and testing in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
- Experienced in operating, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux and Windows environments, including network connectivity and system performance.
- Skilled in basic scripting and command-line operations across Linux and Windows platforms for automation and diagnostics.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and internet protocols, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, CIDR notation, and SNMP.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet switches and associated fiber optic and copper cabling for network connectivity and infrastructure support.
- Familiar with network multiplexing concepts, including DWDM for high-capacity data transmission over fiber.
- Proficient in IP addressing (CIDR/network masking) and basic DNS troubleshooting, including BIND configuration.
