Optical / Photonic / Laser Systems VP RND

A deep-tech startup developing cutting-edge optical device and laser-based systems is seeking a CTO to lead its technology vision and manage several multidisciplinary R&D teams.

This is a unique opportunity to drive innovation in next-generation photonic technologies and to shape the company’s technical roadmap from concept to commercial delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technology strategy, architecture, and execution for optical / photonic / laser-based systems.
• Manage and mentor three development groups: optical / photonic R&D, algorithm / optimization, and electro-optical engineering.
• Drive end-to-end innovation, from laboratory research to scalable commercial solutions.
• Collaborate closely with product and business stakeholders to align technology and market needs.
• Guide experimental research, prototyping, and productization efforts.
• Represent the company’s technical vision externally with customers, partners, and investors.

Requirements

• PhD in Experimental Physics, Applied Physics, or Electro-Optics from a top university.
• Proven hands-on experience in optical / laser development, laboratory experiments, and system-level integration.
• At least 7 years of senior leadership experience (Director / VP / CTO level) in optics, photonics, or laser industries with commercial deliverables.
• Strong track record in managing optical R&D teams and driving complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Advantage: experience with algorithms, optimization models, or AI-driven physical systems.
