About Quantum Source
Quantum Source is making scalable, useful quantum computers a reality.
We are a young, dynamic, and extraordinary multidisciplinary company that unites expertise in quantum physics, photonics, optomechanics, electronics, firmware, and software — all working together to build the next generation of quantum computing hardware.
About the Role
As a System Team leader, you will lead the system team, responsible for delivering system specifications for our photonic-based quantum computer.
This role combines hands-on system engineering with leadership of a multidisciplinary team. You will drive system design and integration across quantum physics, photonic ICs, electronics, and optomechanics — ensuring that all subsystems work seamlessly together to achieve the company’s performance and scalability goals.
You will work closely with physicists, software and hardware developers, and mechanical engineers to translate high-level quantum and optical requirements into well-defined, testable, and scalable system architectures.
Responsibilities
- Lead the system definition, design, and integration of the company’s quantum computing platform.
- Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary system engineering team, setting priorities, guiding development, and fostering technical excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Physics, Hardware, Software, Mechanics) to derive and maintain system requirements and interfaces.
- Oversee and participate in hands-on system integration, testing, and troubleshooting of complex optomechanical and electronic systems.
- Evaluate and incorporate new technologies and methodologies to enhance system performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Coordinate system reviews, manage risks, and ensure alignment between R&D efforts and system-level goals.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for internal and external interfaces related to system-level architecture and performance.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in system architecture, integration, or system engineering for complex high-tech products (e.g., photonics, precision instruments, optomechanical systems, quantum or semiconductor devices).
- Strong understanding of system engineering methodologies, including requirements flow-down, interface control, and verification & validation processes.
- Hands-on experience with opto-mechanical and electronic system integration, control software, and laboratory instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical teams and projects, balancing day-to-day execution with long-term system vision.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-moving, and multidisciplinary R&D environment.
- Creative and analytical thinker, capable of operating in unstructured or first-of-a-kind technology environments.
